About Niallah Young, Owner of Sugar Queen Artisan Bakery

Sugar Queen Artisan Bakery’s story began when I first learned how to make a homemade cream cheese frosting from my mother in and after interning at a French bakery in high school. I would bake cakes and cupcakes for all my friend’s birthdays in high school and I always tried to decorate with pizzazz. Years later while in culinary school at Johnson & Wales University, I would still bake for friends and family, and they encouraged me to start my own business. Friends and family would say that my desserts were amazing and could really sell. After working in kitchens where I felt less than and undermined, I knew that it was my dream to one day have my own bakery business. While studying for her graduate degree in education from Antioch University Seattle, the beginning of Sugar Queen Artisan Bakery came to fruition in 2018.

I prided myself in utilizing the freshest ingredients sourced by local people-of-color owned businesses and farms. I knew when I started this business that I didn’t want this business to only focus on my success but also support those local, small businesses in her community as well. And by God’s grace, in 2019, I competed in a Sharks at the Beach Business pitch competition and won first place. After I won the competition, I was blessed to be on K5 Seattle News that showcased my locally sourced, artistically made cupcakes and sustainably sourced business. I was fortunate enough to have continued success in the Seattle community. Sugar Queen Bakery became a well-known cottage food bakery and my cupcakes were sold at many coffee shops in the Seattle area. I would also serve her cupcakes at local events such as the Columbia City Farmers market and even made delicious cakes and cupcakes for weddings around the state of Washington.

Fast forward to now, I feel very blessed by the outpouring of support I received from my Seattle clients and customers. After COVID, I moved to Florida to be closer to family and decided to bring the cupcake recipes along the way. Now, Sugar Queen Artisan Bakery is taking orders in the Jacksonville, FL and surrounding areas for birthdays, events, just because, and even weddings. I look forward to baking something sweet for your special day!
